How To: Make your own dog treats

Make your own dog treats

Show your four-legged friend you care by cooking up some homemade treats. This video will show you how to make your own dog treats.

You Will Need

* 4 bacon slices
* 2 lb whole wheat flour
* 1/2 c cold water
* 1 egg
* 1/2 c milk
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* 1/4 c bacon fat
* A frying pan
* Paper towels
* A rolling pin
* A cookie sheet
* Cooking spray

Step 1. Fry the bacon

Place the bacon strips side-by-side in the frying pan and fry on medium heat until crispy. Drain on two paper towels on top of a plate, and reserve the fat.

While frying the bacon, preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Step 2. Mix the flour

Pour 3 cups of wheat flour into a bowl, add the water, and stir with a spoon. Add the egg, milk, and garlic powder, mixing thoroughly until the batter is thick and sticky.

Step 3. Add bacon and bacon fat

Crumble the bacon strips into small pieces and add them plus 1/4 cup of reserved bacon fat to the mixture. Stir well.

Step 4. Roll the dough

Spread a handful of whole wheat flour on the kitchen table or counter. Roll the dough flat until it's ½-inch thick.

Step 5. Cut up the dough

Grease the cookie sheet with the cooking spray. Slice the dough into small, "begging sized" strips and place them on the cookie sheet.

Step 6. Bake and cool

Bake in the oven for approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool and use as a training treat or a reward for being a good dog.
